Important Aspects Of Past Life Regression Therapy

By Jose Young

Many world religions teach us that the soul is the most important part of our existence. The soul, they say, is an immortal component of our existence that continues to exist even after we die. Past life regression therapy is based on this belief. That our souls were there before our present bodies came into existence. We (in the form of souls) have lived multiple life times before the memories of which are hidden in our unconscious minds.

Therapist who practice in this area say that accessing the memories of our past lives can go a long way into dealing with modern day challenges. Such memories are believed to help us in receiving healing for a number of mental and physical illnesses. They are also useful in resolving social challenges such as those that relate to interpersonal relationships. Undergoing regular therapeutic sessions helps attain better personal growth.

The technique is similar to hypnotherapy in that the client enters a state of trance. Under the influence of suggestions made by the therapist, they experience their past lives by seeing, feeling, sensing the events. It is different from past life reading which refers to the passive process of undergoing the same without physically experiencing the events. Past life reading does not have any therapeutic effects.

Different people give different accounts of their experiences. While some say that they experienced events fully and vividly (as if they were watching a movie), others can only recall vague flashes of events. Apart from visual images, memories also come in the form of other sensory stimuli such as smell (for instance, burning rubber or a sweet aroma of cooking food), gustatory (salty, sweet and bitter tastes) and auditory stimuli (such as a crying infant, a gunshot or music).

The events that are locked up in our memory have a strong influence on our current lives. They affect us in many ways but we are hardly aware of their effect. The influences may be of a positive or a negative nature. The patterns that tend to have a strong influence include broken vows, achievements, emotional debts, lost love, traumatic or sudden deaths and so on.

The memories so unlocked tend to affect our relationships, behaviors, achievements and even our physical and mental health in the present life. Positive patterns are important as they help us rediscover the talents of our previous lifetimes and develop them to our benefit. They also bestow the wisdom that we once heard. Most importantly they help us understand our life purpose better. Negative patterns are associated with maladaptive behavior.

When you visit the therapist, you may be asked to choose a specific objective. Since the past is so huge and varied, having a specific intention helps in opening the doors only to the memories that are relevant to a specific situation. Such may include questions about specific circumstances in your life, unexplained illnesses, and troubled relationships and so on. Adopting this approach also makes it possible for us to put the memories that come to use in context.

Regression therapies are design to help the soul heal from various afflictions by dealing with unresolved problems in previous life times. Negative memories in the past are dropped or neutralized while positive ones are reinforced. The therapy is increasingly gaining acceptance among persons of different religions.
